The lush green of the treetops fades to a dull gold. What seems a peaceful transition raises a blaring alarm to the creatures below. Time is running out. But for generations, mighty oaks have fulfilled a promise to provide, and leaves are not the only bounty tumbling to the forest floor. Chipmunks scurry among the detritus in their quest to collect the plumpest acorns. They eagerly gather what they can and, cheeks bulging with nuts, scamper home to line their snug burrows before falling leaves give way to biting snow. Zoologist Chipmunk captures an autumn forest bursting with ripe nuts. Juicy quince, dusted with cardamom and nutmeg, dangles tantalizingly among naturalistic woods and green, milky kernels. Chipmunk invites you up into the branches, offering a dazzling vantage point from which to enjoy the rich golden and russet hues of the changing seasons.

Chipmunk is an assortment of comforts, pivoting around a central autumnal theme. Woody notes are exalted, assuming a softness only possible with restraint; balance is key. Chipmunk is appropriately dominated with a sweet and buttery hazelnut note, nuanced with a fresh woody aroma, surrounded in soft textured spices that warm from the inside out. A mighty oak note is the immovable core of this scent, like a hollowed-out trunk full of the critter’s bounty. Chipmunk reveals the sweetness of the earth, teetering along the side of deliciousness. From all sides this fragrance is ‘touched up’: sour and sweet quince, honied and meadow-sweet chamomile, finally shaded in lashings of ambery and sticky opoponax resin, improved with patchouli, benzoin, vetiver, guaiac, and cedar. The resin note grows stronger in the dry down and rapidly becomes as essential as the nutty top and oaky heart of Chipmunk, evoking a sensual ambery feel reminiscent of some of the champions of the soft amber category. This is Chipmunk’s secret: a woody fragrance considered top-down; and a beautifully plush resinous one from the bottom-up. Marvellous.
