Like the luminescent skin of a reptile, fiery scales of sunlight ripple across the surface of the Indian Ocean, fading slowly to gold and finally sapphire as the sun sinks and disappears. The sea exhales, its gentle tide caressing the beach of an island paradise. The salty breath combines with the narcotic aromas of the ylang and frangipani trees in an intimate kiss, sending shivers through the branches. Something stirs – an eye pivots, a tail grips a slender bough. Will the creature vanish among the leaves, or flirt with a daring display of colour? No one knows. The secrets that lie beneath the skin of the chameleon keep Madagascar guessing. Madagascar, home to half of the world’s species of chameleons, holds the key to Zoologist Chameleon. Like the kaleidoscope of hues that swirl within the flesh of these exotic creatures, ylang dances with delicate frangipani upon your skin in a melody of creamy florals, while aphrodisiac vanilla blends with salty, silky musks to envelop you in the fruity, exotic atmosphere of the island. Whether you desire to shroud yourself in an air of mystery, or blatantly flaunt your true colours, Chameleon becomes you.

Made in Canada

Chameleon rediscovers the beloved combination of ylang-ylang and vanilla, an ‘ambre solaire’ accented with exotic fruit notes which lend a kaleidoscopic and iridescent quality to the work. A chameleon’s skin is a mirror of nature, which not only reflects the Madagascan environment, but intensifies its hues. In order to preserve a sensual, skin-like feel, perfumer Daniel Pescio works with salicylates and cashmeran in the base, the latter providing substance and an exhilarating and majestic solar effect, and the former a musky-woody sensuality. This is acidulated with a touch of violet leaf, adding a cool and green tone to this realistic skin. The total result is that of a body graced by the tropics at the end of the day – salty and warm, but also creamy and shaded in exquisite powder. This accord – which at times reads as abstract – defines the heart of this fragrance, making this scent feel greater than human, and more so animal.

Madagascan ylang-ylang naturally comes to dominate and picks up this sensuality, which extends this muskiness into fruity and floral territories, but even (surprisingly) animalic ones, ringing of vanilla and spicy clove. The tropical sensation is repeated with mango, coconut, star fruit, frangipani, vanilla, and sandalwood – fruits that are sweet-and-sour, and woody notes that are milky-yet-dry. Along this skin, amber, resins, and saffron leap, wrapped up with these floral tones to produce a distinctive trail. This is a tropical scent like no other, not only a knockout, but one which restores dignity and verve to the phantasmal category.
