A benchmark of the rose-patchouli genre, Hippie Rose is a work of watercolour. A woody-chypre medley, its generally all too serious appearance softens under the effect of watercolour. Its hard edges and potency blur to gauze as they are thinned out in an aromatic water. With a viscous and slippery sleek on the surface, this could be Debussy’s rose. The central duet of rose and patchouli is seen as a reflection in the water, coloured by the pristine blues and oranges of the dusky sky and the green mosses that spread themselves across this garden. The total aromatic effect is spicy, crisp, fruity, and nuanced with fine touches of incense, amber, and vetiver for a woody and dark counterpoint.
